My plead to all...

emailed this to my entire email address book earlier, here's to some of you not on my address book...

Dear friends, families, clients & colleagues,

Howdy :)

I am soliciting something to you thro this mass email (apologies) but No, there won't be any money involved in this solicitation so hold on to your wallets :)  nor there is a political propaganda so hold your tongue ;p

Am sure many of you have noticed that I carry with me a funny (or scary to some) looking drinking bag with me wherever I go, it's a FDA (US Food & Drug Association) approved imported plastic bag for holding drinking liquids call Platypus.  I have been using that drinking bag for more than a year now, and before I purchased that bag, I was carrying around large drinking bottle to keep myself hydrated.

I have chosen a lifestyle of having my own drinking bottle/bag around because I want to reduce my personal consumption of plastic products (bottled mineral water for a start).  I also always carry in my various huge handbags a set of reusable utensil so I don't need to use another plastic spoon or fork at food courts or take out counters.  In my handbag on most days, I have with me a foldable shopping bag so I don't have to take a plastic bag to hold my purchases over the cashiers.

Am sure all of you would have at some point have heard of all the busy talk about saving the earth, protect the planet, our environment, global warming, etc etc.  I live a very busy schedule and am sure most of you do too, although I wish I have more resources and time to organise green movement on a grander scale, I figure at this rate, I will just do what I can manage at this point by doing my little part thro my everyday routine and small bits -- things everybody can do with just a little bit effort -- you know we cannot pretend that going green is ever easy but doing a small bit ISN'T HARD.

So I do my small bits in

- the few things I've already mentioned above, carry my own drinking water around, have my own shopping bag handy, use my own compact utensils.
- turning off lights when I leave a room
- switch off the air con when I don't need it
- turn off the tap when I'm brushing my teeth
- pack my take-out in my own Tupperware
- turn off my PC screen when I go out
- shop second hand :)  cheap n good

Ok, that's enough granny story to illustrate my point quite simply?  I heard this the other day over the radio just before the Earth Hour event, a guy from an NGO saying to the radio show host - "Frankly, the planet earth doesn't need any saving, the earth will heal itself if it is rid of modernisation& over-harvesting.  Really, it is us, the human beings that need to be saved, from our destructive ways -- at this rate we are going, we will extinct pretty soon if we don't slow down -- so really, what we are doing in our green movement is to save ourselves from being swallowed in our own mess."

So I urge you, if you aren't already (I know some of you are already doing it) thinking about saving ourselves, please spend a few moments to ponder over.  There is a bottomless  amount of facts, reports and statistics about global warming, exhausting natural resources, etc etc...everywhere we look so I shan't attempt to paint the picture to you here, the picture isn't a pretty one but there is no reason to give up.

Now, specifically, I am urging all of us to REDUCE (not stop, just reduce) our consumption of Disposable plastic products, Styrofoam...you know what I mean.

I volunteer with a group set up by a few friends name The Recyclist, we have a grand project called the Project Daily Million -- we aim to collect one million Malaysian signatures, of people who are consciously thinking about saving and reducing the use of plastic bags (and sorts) AND do save a plastic bag a day -- hence, a million bags saved on daily basis: Project Daily Million.

Now, last but not least, if you agree to my notions above, please spend a minute by signing your name on The Reccylist & Project Daily Million site at:

(please note that this site is still being updated as we speak so please ignore the out-dated pledgers list, we have more than 105 pledgers today)

Details on our (The Recyclist) mission and objectives is on the site, Project Daily Million
please help yourself, we welcome feedback & ideas.  Do check the site again in a week's time for our new look and updates.

Thank you for reading and for your  time :)

Have a green day ahead...

Palate Palate Junkyard Sale - March 29

Yo! Yo! Yo!

Everybody’s FAVOURITE Sunday afternoon Junkyard is back this month…with a special twist!

Yes, there will still be fantastic bargains to be found, from the new and trendy to vintage and pre-loved along with loads of artsy items...

Yes, there will still be music and merchandise to blow your mind from LAPSAP

Yes, there will still be sweet smoke rising from Palate Palette’s yummy BBQ pit (we’re going Mexican this time!)…and lovely drinks flowing out of the bar…

So where’s the twist in all this? While having a great time on Sunday, we’ll all be contributing to a good cause, theMAA-MEDIcare Kidney Charity Fund.

Junkyard vendors (some have agreed to donate at least 10% of sales to the fund), LAPSAP (RM10 from every LAPSAP tee purchased will go to the fund) and Palate Palette will be contributing to charity and most importantly, we’ll need YOUR help to make this one-of-a-kind F&B-charity partnership a success!

As if that's not enticing enough, there'll even be a health quiz/lucky draw and a chance to win some funky prizes! So come one, come all, and simply spend a fun-filled Sunday afternoon with us!

The MAA-MEDIcare Kidney Charity Fund is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 1994 to provide highly subsidised dialysis treatment to kidney patients. Our 660 patients have access to a total of 160 dialysis machines in the 12 centres in cities and towns across Malaysia. In funding our operations, we do not receive any assistance from the government, but instead work on projects with corporations, the media and individuals for fund raising activities.

Bijou Bazzar is back this weekend :)

Message from Werga @ Facebook :)

Hi folks,

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! Hope y'all had a good holiday. :o)

Quickly then, we'll be replacing the postponed weekend with a Raya Sakan Open House this coming 11 - 12 Oct 2008. It's the rainy season, so we've decided to operate indoor + we'll still be @ The Podium, Menara Hap Seng. The Podium is pretty private, quite laidback + rather safe ... no pilferage yet except for the missing rubber duckies during the first Saturday (grRRrrRRr ... ;op). I saw people lugging their laptops + playing card games with friends during the last installment.

We'll be bringing back soda kampung (only 300 bottles available), aiskrim 'Malaysia' + teh botol. If you missed them @ Jeumpa D'ramo, make way to The Podium this coming weekend y'all! ;o)

The shopping? Well, you know the unique + stylo bijoux you'll always find @ Bijou Bazaar ...

See you soon!

xoxo

This book is for us ladies!!!!

Green Is The New Black by Tasmin Blanchard

......relief*

The Monday after...(the run of 10 performances of Parodies...)

Spent some time at Borders and came across the book, and this one...

It's Vintage Darling by Christa Weil

It's soooo us!! Ya?

Oh since this is the Raya week, I shall tell you how I plan to spend my Raya in KL!

My man J was going to take me to some swanky hotel in town (to avoid having to battle the traffic) this Raya for a `sleep-in-holiday' to help me recover from my bad sleeping habits during the run of Parodies...

But we put off the idea after we checked the rates of the nice hotels (Ritz, etc) this week -- and considered the price tag of this little treat, and then thought of people and animals who need a treat more than me...

Basically, our guilt drove us off the hotel outing.
So, J proposed that we spend the money instead on some dog food, etc and go out to the streets to feed the stray dogs & cats. On the streets where the annoying traffic has gone off to the kampongs. We can also then take some photos of the strays also, for our own collection, etc.

What a fabulous idea! Don't you agree that this is more meaningful than spending RM 460++ a night on a nice bed and a butler? We'll going to spread some love this Raya! It's Hari Raya for dogs!!

Anyone interested in joining us on the Raya For Dogs?
Ok, here's the idea for all of you to bounce off...

You can either go out for a few hours to feed the strays round your neighbourhoods, etc -- give them a special Raya Day treat, or you are welcome to join me and justin to go round n look for strays and take some photos of them.

What do you say?
Oh, another wonderful idea for you on the topic of giving.

I went to a friend's birthday gathering (Susheela's) last weekend. Susheela specifically reuqested that the guests didn't bring her any birthday presents but if they wish to give her something, they may give her cash donation or food provision to be given to the refugees staying in town (now that's another topic al together -- the hardship faced by refugees in Malaysia).

By late evening, Sushee's hall was filled with a small mountain of provisions given by her guests,
it was beautiful and very meaningful -- just an idea for your future bday parties -- what a wondeful idea!!! To celebrate your bday and at the same time raising funds/goods for those who are less fortunate and more needy.

on the green front, I realised I have never talked about The Recyclists here? I cant remember but I've been at it for many months now. I am part of The Recyclists.

I cant get enough of my weeeeekend shopppping!

I love love love the Badan Warisan bazaar! Not only it has a good number of secondhand goods vendors, the stuff were REALLLY GOOD too -- sorry babes, I am very very biased! -- I like to buy things from older women!! One look you can tell that they have grown out of our `cotton is for comfort' period and everything on their racks for sale were silk, chiffons, velvet....linen, and all kinds of worldly, lovely, deadly (to your wallet) things.

I got my first Tom Abang Saufi silk blouse (kimon sleeves) for 20 bucks!!!

VINCCI London, made in Italy silk dress (my guess is that it's late 70s?) - RM 15

British brand Ghost velvet dinner jacket for also 20 bucks!

SeeMing bought me this one...JIKI - Monte Carlo Creations, made in France

and this one

these earrings were 5 - 10 bucks each pair, from the lovely lady Halima

vintage handbad, 20 bucks
